Blue Cheese Dip goes with apples, crackers, pears, and dried apricots. I love sweet and salty combos and this dip recipe is one of my favorites!
The book was so good, I spent the weekend reading. Guess I should have been cooking. I was supposed to bring something to my book group. Oops!
Book Club snack
I didn’t have time to run to the store so started a search. I had chives that were about 4-inches tall. So that’s where I started…hmmm…what goes with chives?
Cheese.
Cheese goes with nearly everything, right?
How to make Blue Cheese Chive Dip
I used what I had on hand: blue cheese, Parmesan, cottage cheese, and plain yogurt. The cottage cheese and yogurt add thickness plus tangy flavors but much less fat than cream cheese, but best of all, they add protein and calcium. Many cheeses can be blended into dips and spreads like this Fromage Fort.
The ingredients
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/3 cup blue cheese
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup cottage cheese
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- dash red chile flakes
What goes with blue cheese?
- apple slices
- pear slices
- dried apricots
- whole-grain crackers and pretzels
- artisan fruit and seed crackers
Cook’s note: The pear and dried apricots were the first to go. They liked the sweet and salty combo. Though you could also top toast, a burger or steak with it.
A healthy blue cheese dip
Is there such as thing? YES! With yogurt and cottage cheese, this dip is over in fat than most creamy dips, but no one will notice. Really.
Did you know, most American women fall short on calcium? True. So this is just what my fellow book clubbers need! More than that, they agreed it tasted great.

This recipe sounds great! I make a blue cheese chiptole dip with similar base ingredients to yours. Seems like the spicy fills my cravings some how….. Your blue cheese chive dip would be a good dip for those folks who like savory but not spicy. Wonderful web site, thanks Judy!
Hi Laurel, I love the idea of adding chipotle. I’ll try that next time. The chives are running amok!
